This new series of text+image works is the result of experiments in automatism, in allowing the self to become a vessel, receiving information from arational sources. Initial sketches for these pieces were composed in a state of increased receptivity, guided by a force some have termed the unconscious, the psyche, the aether, or even a realm of spirits residing alongside the living world. Creative techniques include automatic drawing as well as crosswriting and sigilization, two forms of magical composition in which text becomes abstract image, both obscuring and manifesting meaning. After the initial impulses were captured, the conscious mind was then invited to mold those channeled ideas into their final arrangements.
